Plan and prepare

On sunny days, observe where and at what time of day the sunny spots are in your house and garden and create a cosy oasis in them. Place a comfortable chair, a cosy rug (for when the sun disappears), a convenient table to hold hot drinks and books (or your favourite gardening magazines), and surround yourself with cheerful potted plants. Maybe a future project can be to build a deck or small conservatory to encourage more use of a pretty, sunny spot for next winter.

As winter crops are harvested, prepare the soil for spring planting. Always check the pH in vegie beds after a crop is removed and adjust accordingly.

Order seeds of vegetables and annuals from mail order suppliers and be ready to sow them in punnets, or straight into the ground, when weather conditions are right.
